In this episode of The Rank Podcast, John continues his Sitcom Rankings series with a look at the classic 1978 sitcom Taxi, breaking down Season 3, Episode 11: “Elaine’s Old Friend.” When Elaine unexpectedly picks up her successful former high school rival as a passenger, she becomes embarrassed about her life as a cab driver and lies about having a prestigious boyfriend. As the lie spirals, her old rival insists on setting up a double date, forcing Elaine deeper into the deception. In a desperate attempt to save face, Alex steps in and pretends to be her sophisticated boyfriend, leading to an awkward and surprisingly convincing dinner where their fake relationship takes on a life of its own.
