    Oct 13 2026

Lizzie Eastham presents Studio 1 - Vision Australia Radio’s weekly look at life through a different lens.

    On this week’s show

    “Recipe for Success”

This week Lizzie is flying solo. She revisits the kitchen for a lighthearted and practical look at cooking. Joined by a "choir of angels"—a group of guest contributors sharing their personal tips, tricks, and kitchen misadventures—this episode covers how blind and vision-impaired individuals navigate meal prep, adapt cooking techniques, and build confidence in the kitchen.

    • Simon: Shares his go-to recipe for spicy vegan beans and vegetables, along with a funny mishap using a Ninja Multi-Cooker pressure cooker.
    • Lisa: Demonstrates a simple air-fryer chicken breast schnitzel recipe. She offers practical safety and prep tips:
      • Using an air fryer with a timer to prevent accidental fires.
      • Adding dried spices and seasonings before adding oil to adjust measurements easily.
      • Keeping one hand clean while mixing raw meat to maintain hygiene and avoid cross-contamination.
      • Using baking paper on cooking trays for easy cleanup (plus Lizzie’s tip to dab a bit of butter under the baking paper to keep it from sliding).
    • Maddy & Alex: Discuss everyday kitchen misadventures, cutting techniques, and overcoming the fear of accidentally cutting fingers or making a mess.
    • Lizzie: Explores how AI tools like ChatGPT can be used to quickly generate customized, hassle-free recipes (including choc chip peanut butter cookies and dog-friendly carob cakes) without wading through long online blog posts.
    • Stephen: Shares his secrets for cooking perfect tender meat, including slow-cooking chicken wings wrapped in foil so the meat falls off the bone, and techniques for searing steak on stainless steel pans.
    • Geordie: Shares 3 practical kitchen tips for blind cooks:
      1. Using talking kitchen scales (e.g., Cobalt) to measure liquids in milliliters via grams ().
      2. Using silicone egg rings with raised tabs to keep fried eggs contained and easy to locate/flip.
      3. Pouring dry ingredients (like flour or sugar) while holding the container over the sink to catch spills.
    • Garth: Gives a clever tip for cutting baked slices (like fudge or ginger slice) into uniform squares using a long, straight-backed bread knife.
