The Conflict: During a severe drought, only one water pool remains in a small forest. A ram arrives to drink water just as a lion appears. The lion demands the ram step aside because he is the king of the forest, but the ram stubbornly refuses, claiming he arrived first. A violent fight is about to break out.
The Turning Point: Up in a nearby tree, two vultures (eagles) watch the dispute, eagerly chatting that once the lion kills the ram, they will get an easy, effortless meal.
The Presence of Mind: Overhearing their plan, the ram quickly realizes that mindless stubbornness will cost its life. Setting its pride aside, the ram politely yields and asks the lion to drink first.
A Graceful Resolution: Surprised by the sudden change in attitude, the lion calms down as well. Recognizing that a true king's duty is to look after the welfare of forest creatures, the lion insists the ram drink first. The disappointed vultures fly away empty-handed.
Moral:
Blind stubbornness leads to self-destruction. Knowing when to compromise is not a sign of weakness—it is wisdom and presence of mind that saves lives.
