Spiritual Arms: Five Minutes for the Battle

Illness, pain, and suffering can leave us feeling powerless...but they can also turn our hearts back toward God. Through the healing of the man who suffered for 38 years, Harrison Parsons (in his Spiritual Arms debut) explores how Jesus brings hope to the suffering and mercy to the sinner. Whatever burden you’re carrying, Christ is calling you to trust Him, receive His grace, and walk in new life.

New American Bible Revised Edition (NABRE) translation

    New Testament:

    • John 5:2-9

    • John 5:14

    Old Testament:

    • Isaiah 25:1-6

    • Isaiah 42:6-7

    • Isaiah 42:16

    Catechism of the Catholic Church:

    • Paragraph 1500-1501

    • Paragraph 1440

    • Paragraph 1443

    Takeaways:

    • Jesus fulfilled Isaiah’s prophecy by healing the sick and restoring the suffering. After healing the man who had been ill for 38 years, Jesus warned him to turn away from sin and remain faithful.

    • God wants to heal us — physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Whatever suffering we face, we can turn to Jesus and trust in His love.

    • Don’t let sin keep you from God’s mercy. Through His Cross and Resurrection, Jesus offers forgiveness and freedom. If it’s been a while since your last Confession, return to Him and experience the healing power of His love.

Spiritual Arms: Five Minutes for the Battle

Since the very beginning of "Spiritual Arms: Five Minutes for the Battle", Joshua Correa has been leading us through Scripture, the Catechism, and the daily battle of living out our Catholic faith. Now, as Joshua takes on a new role serving as Interim Director of Religious Education at St. Mary’s Cathedral, he’ll have a little less time to devote to the podcast...but he isn’t going anywhere!

In this special episode, we introduce Harrison Parsons, a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Hereford, who will be joining Joshua as a co-host. Going forward, Joshua and Harrison will alternate episodes, bringing their own experiences, perspectives, and faith journeys to Spiritual Arms.

So, who is Harrison? Why did he say yes to Spiritual Arms? What does he hope to bring to the podcast? And what does it mean to prepare ourselves for the spiritual battle we face every day?

Take some time and get to know the newest voice behind Spiritual Arms. Because we’re not losing Joshua...we’re gaining another voice to help us keep our eyes fixed on Christ.

Spiritual Arms: Five Minutes for the Battle

We chase wealth, pleasure, power, honor...and somehow we're still thirsty. Why? Spiritual Arms explores Jesus' encounter with the woman at the well and His invitation to leave behind the broken cisterns of the world and drink from the fountain of living water. And we are not the only ones who thirst — the Catechism reminds us that God also thirsts for us! Discover what happens when God's thirst meets ours.

    Revised Standard Version (RSV) translation

    New Testament:

    • John 4:5-15

    Old Testament:

    • Exodus 17:5-7

    • Jeremiah 2:12-13

    Catechism of the Catholic Church:

    • Paragraph 2560

    • Paragraph 2561

    Takeaways:

    • The water from the rock in Exodus points to Christ. Just as God provided water for the Israelites, Jesus gives us living water. His pierced side on the Cross poured out blood and water, fulfilling this deeper meaning.

    • Like the Israelites, we can turn away from God while chasing worldly things such as wealth, pleasure, power, or status.

    • Jesus invites us to return to Him, the Fountain of Living Water, who washes us clean and gives us new life.

    • Like the woman at the well, we are called to share what Jesus has done for us and become messengers of His mercy and the Gospel.
