A proposito di questo titolo

Where do you imagine when I ask you to think of something blue? Maybe it's an ocean, a river or a lake, maybe it's the feeling you get when you take a sip of water, or the calmness in your mind as you sit at the water's edge. Water is there for every chapter of our lives, and in this podcast, we'll be discovering the untold stories of our love affair with water. I'll be inviting guests to share their something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue, as we dive into the realm of all things water and take a moment to appreciate the truly wonderful nature of blue spaces.

  • Protect the power of the sea: Andrew Holbrook, Dad and Childhood Ocean Inspirer
    Jan 8 2026

For today's episode, I sat down with a very special guest. Reflecting on the happy childhood memories that formed his love of the sea, this conversation with my dad was a rare chance for us to reflect on the childhood inspiration that led us both to water. With a shared connection to blue spaces, this conversation made me realise more than ever the powerful influence of those around us, especially parents, to instil a love of nature that lasts a lifetime.

Something Old: Playing with toys in the bathtub as a child, afternoons spent on the beach during happy childhood holidays in Cornwall

Something New: Seabed cameras giving us opportunity to see the regeneration of our seas when given the chance to recover. Links golf courses leading the way on conservation with their natural coastal design

Something Borrowed: When does our affinity with water begin? The timeless role of water in healing, holidays and health

Something Blue: Lahinch, County Clare, Ireland & St Andrews, Scotland.

  • Save the seas for our grandchildren: Howard Wood OBE, Co-Founder of the Community of Arran Seabed Trust
    Dec 8 2025

In today's episode, I'm joined by Howard Wood OBE, Co-Founder of the Community of Arran Seabed Trust (COAST), Coastal Communities Network (CCN) and the Sustainable Inshore Fisheries Trust (SIFT). In the year that COAST celebrates its 30th year, Howard reflects on a lifelong journey campaigning for Scotland's seas, the establishment of the Lamlash Bay No Take Zone in Arran's coastal waters, and the people in marine conservation that have made it all possible.

In this episode we delve deep into the legislation that limits seabed protection, what communities around the globe can teach us about marine protection and the political actions we must take to honour our love of the sea.

Something Old: Playing and taking an interest in the trout in a stream in the garden. Annual visits to Arran as a child, fishing from a rowing boat on the sea

Something New: Advancing technology to better image the seabed. Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) and Drop Down Cameras making the seabed accessible to all

Something Borrowed: The inspiring underwater films of Hans Hass and Jacques Cousteau; David Attenborough documentaries allowing the public to see what's underwater. Support for COAST from Professor Rupert Allman, Director at Millport; Callum Roberts, Professor of Marine Conservation at University of Exeter; Dr Bryce Stewart, Senior Research Fellow at the Marine Biological Association; and David Bailey, Reader in Marine Ecology at University of Glasgow; all esteemed academics encouraging us to follow the right path

Something Blue: Being underwater diving. 'I'm never happier than sat on the seabed, with my camera, taking some pictures.' Exploring and documenting monkey puzzle bryozoan in the seas around Arran
