  • Is Your Team Scared To Make Decisions?
    Oct 14 2026

If your team keeps asking for permission, revisiting settled decisions, or waiting until everything is perfect to move a project forward, they may be more concerned about your reaction than the decision itself. In this episode, Shannon Waller shares how leaders can give people clearer authority, help them know when to move fast, and create a culture where action and learning go together.

    Show Notes:

    • When people keep asking for permission or reopening decisions, they may be worried about how you’ll react.
    • Leaders have more power than they realize, and their tone, body language, and facial expressions can either build confidence or make people hesitant.
    • Be clear about which decisions your team owns so they know when to decide, act, and move things forward.
    • Type 1 decisions are difficult to reverse and deserve more research, discussion, and careful judgment.
    • Type 2 decisions are easy to change, so they should be made quickly and pushed down to the people closest to the work.
    • If every decision comes back to you, you become the bottleneck and your team stops building its own decision-making muscles.
    • Give newer team members clear parameters, especially around budget, risk, and what makes a decision easy or difficult to reverse.
    • You can’t ask people to take action and then punish them when something doesn’t work exactly as planned.
    • When a decision doesn’t go your way, respond with curiosity and learning instead of anger or blame.
    • Your purpose, core values, and long-term vision help people know what to do when you’re not there.
    • Use Strategic Coach® tools like The Impact Filter® and The Strategy Circle® to show your team how you think and what a successful result looks like.
    • Your team will move much faster and with much more confidence when they know they’re on the winning team when things work and the learning team when they don’t.

  • Creating Freedom Through Succession Planning, with Mike Mack
    Sep 30 2026

What would happen to your business if you had to step away tomorrow? In this episode, Shannon Waller interviews X5 Management founder Mike Mack about why succession planning isn’t just a legal or financial exercise. They discuss how to start the conversation, prepare your leadership team, plan for the unexpected, and build a business that can keep growing without relying on you for every decision.

    Show Notes:

    • Succession isn’t just about selling your business; it’s about making sure your company, team, and family are prepared for what comes next.
    • Many successful entrepreneurs avoid succession planning because it brings up difficult questions about identity, control, purpose, and the future.
    • The best time to start planning is before a health issue, emergency, or unexpected opportunity forces you to make big decisions quickly.
    • Getting clear on your ideal future helps you decide whether you want to keep working, shift into a different role, or step back over time.
    • You don’t have to leave the business completely to create more freedom, but you do need to separate being the owner from being involved in every decision.
    • A strong succession plan includes more than choosing a future leader—it also includes ownership, governance, decision-making, and leadership development.
    • Your leadership team can help create continuity by building their financial knowledge, decision-making skills, and confidence to lead without you in the room.
    • Family members may be part of the future of the business, but they still need to be capable, committed, and well matched to their roles.
    • Leaders who want to support the transition can raise the subject thoughtfully, stay patient, and focus on what’s best for the company.
    • A simple crisis plan, including key contacts, passwords, signing authority, and important documents, can spare your family and team enormous stress.
    • Trusted advisors can help with the legal and financial details, while a coach or consultant can help you work through the more personal side of the transition.
    • You don’t have to solve everything at once; one honest conversation or one practical next step can get you moving.

  • Does Your Unique Ability® Max Out?
    Sep 16 2026

Your best people may love what they do, but even Unique Ability® can become stale when there’s no new challenge. In this episode, Shannon Waller explains why Unique Ability never truly maxes out, how it deepens over time, and what you can do to keep your team’s best talents energized, growing, and making a bigger impact.

    Download Episode Transcript

    Show Notes:

    • Unique Ability is what you’re great at, love doing, get energy from, and can keep getting better at for the rest of your life.
    • Unique Ability doesn’t max out, but it can get stale when there is nothing new to learn, solve, or improve.
    • When talented people get bored, they can lose energy—or start creating problems just to have something interesting to fix.
    • Don’t assume that people will stay engaged simply because they’re naturally good at and enjoy their work.
    • To keep Unique Ability growing, make sure it’s being used, appreciated, rewarded, enhanced, and referred.
    • People need to know that the value they create is noticed and appreciated by the people they help.
    • Being paid more as your capability and contribution grow is an important part of feeling valued.
    • The best work helps people get better, take on new challenges, and stretch into new territory.
    • A strong reputation lets people know that their Unique Ability is making a real difference.
    • When someone has solved the same problem too many times, give them a more complex problem to tackle.
    • If the work itself is no longer challenging, a bigger or more interesting audience may be what they need next.
    • Keep asking your best people what would make their work more interesting, challenging, and rewarding.
