  • 10-What if Mom Guilt is Lying to You?
    Oct 27 2026

    Drop me a note...

Just because you feel guilty doesn't mean you've done something wrong.

And yet, somehow, mom guilt has become the unofficial job description of motherhood.

Work? Feel guilty. Stay home? Feel guilty. Want a break from your kids? Guilty. Actually enjoy that break? Believe it or not, also guilty.

As a mom of five, I've had plenty of opportunities to question what the hell we're doing to ourselves.

In this episode of Shannon Says So, we're talking about mom guilt, motherhood expectations, working mom guilt, parenting choices, self-care, and why being a good mother shouldn't require becoming a martyr.

Motherhood involves trade-offs. Every choice comes with something you don't choose. That doesn't automatically make it the wrong choice.

We're getting into the difference between useful guilt and guilt created by impossible cultural expectations, why sacrifice isn't the only measure of a mother's love, and what our kids learn when they see us living full, interesting lives of our own.

You can love being a mother and find parts of it really damn hard.

You can love your children and want things that have absolutely nothing to do with them.

And you can be a wonderful mother without making yourself the least important person in your family.

You're someone in your family, too.

    In This Episode

    • Why mom guilt is so common, and when guilt is actually useful
    • The impossible cultural expectations of a “good mother”
    • Working mom guilt, stay-at-home motherhood, and the trade-offs every parent makes
    • Why maternal martyrdom isn't a parenting requirement
    • Self-care, personal ambition, and wanting things outside motherhood
    • What children learn from watching their mothers live full lives
    • How to stop letting guilt make every parenting decision

mom guilt, maternal guilt, working mom guilt, stay-at-home mom guilt, how to deal with mom guilt, motherhood expectations, good mother, parenting guilt, motherhood and sacrifice, maternal martyrdom, self-care for moms, motherhood and identity, work-life balance for moms, parenting choices, motherhood burnout, motherhood and ambition.

    Oct 20 2026

    Drop me a note...

Why Talking About People Isn't Always a Bad Thing

I'm gonna formally come out as pro-gossip.

Somewhere along the way, we decided that talking about other people is automatically a character flaw. But what if gossip isn't always toxic? What if it's actually an important part of how women communicate, build friendships, share information, and figure out who the hell they can trust?

In this episode of Shannon Says So, we're talking about the psychology of gossip, relationships, social dynamics, and why being “nice” isn't always the same thing as being kind.

Because sometimes gossip is petty and mean. Absolutely.

But sometimes it's how we process experiences, compare notes, warn a friend, or realize we're not the only person who noticed something was off.

We're getting into the difference between venting and campaigning, why politeness can keep important information buried, and how gossip can strengthen friendships and community when it's handled responsibly.

And yes, there's an ethical line. We're talking about that too.

My argument? Gossip isn't automatically the problem. What you're saying, why you're saying it, and what you're hoping happens next matter a whole lot more.

And since every one of us will eventually be the subject of gossip, we might as well have an honest conversation about it.

    In This Episode

    • Why gossip isn't always bad, and how it can help women share important information
    • The difference between harmless gossip, venting, and intentionally damaging someone's reputation
    • How gossip influences friendships, trust, relationships, and community
    • Why being nice and being kind are not always the same thing
    • When sharing information is helpful and when it crosses an ethical line
    • Why social consequences for bad behavior aren't automatically a bad thing

  • 08-Not Everything That Makes You Uncomfortable is Toxic
    Oct 13 2026

    Drop me a note...

    Over-Therapizing Normal Human Discomfort

I think we've gotten a little too comfortable diagnosing normal human discomfort.

    An awkward conversation? Toxic.

Someone disagrees with you? They're violating your peace.

Something makes you anxious? Clearly, it's a sign you shouldn't do it.

Listen, I'm all for therapy, mental health awareness, healthy boundaries, and protecting yourself from genuinely harmful situations, but I think we've started confusing being uncomfortable with being unsafe. Those are not always the same thing.

In this episode of Shannon Says So, we're talking about anxiety, therapy culture, emotional resilience, relationships, boundaries, and why avoiding every uncomfortable feeling might actually be making our lives smaller.

Because building community requires showing up. Healthy relationships involve difficult conversations. Personal growth involves uncertainty. And sometimes anxiety is simply what happens when you're doing something unfamiliar, not proof you're making the wrong decision.

Discomfort is information. It isn't always instruction.

I don't want a life where nothing ever makes me uncomfortable.

I want a life where discomfort doesn't get the deciding vote.

    In this episode

    • Why we're over-pathologizing normal human emotions
    • Anxiety vs. danger: when discomfort deserves attention and when it doesn't need to dictate your decisions
    • How therapy language can change the way we interpret relationships and everyday experiences
    • Why community, friendship, and meaningful relationships require uncomfortable conversations
    • When “protecting your peace” becomes avoiding your life
    • How therapy, self-awareness, and emotional resilience can help us tolerate difficult feelings
    • The difference between pushing through ordinary discomfort and recognizing genuinely harmful situations
