A proposito di questo titolo
What if the story you’re most ashamed of… is the one that could set someone else free?
In this deeply personal episode of The Hot Wash, host Kyle Stoy—a combat veteran, former SWAT operator, and mitochondrial health coach—opens up about a chapter of his life he’s never shared publicly in this much depth: his quiet battle with addiction, shame, and the inherited weight of generational trauma.
After surviving an IED blast in Afghanistan and nearly losing his leg, Kyle was prescribed heavy pain medications—including a Dilaudid drip during extended hospitalization. Upon release, the medications continued—along with emotional isolation. Alone in a recovery dorm, technically still in charge as a lieutenant, Kyle spiraled.
What followed wasn’t a dramatic overdose or rock bottom—it was something more common, more dangerous, and more silent:
👉 Holed up in a dark room
👉 Playing video games
👉 Taking his meds
👉 And avoiding everyone
But what kept him stuck wasn’t just the addiction—it was the shame of knowing he came from a family line that struggled with the same thing. A mother with a history of drug use. A father who died from alcoholic liver failure. And now… him.
The shame told him to hide. To self-manage. To suffer in silence.
But someone noticed. Someone checked on him. And that moment of honest confrontation became the first step back to light.
How shame convinces high performers to suffer in silence
The invisible way addiction creeps in during recovery and trauma
Why acknowledging your truth is the strongest move you can make
The power of reframing emotion instead of repressing it
How to disrupt shame’s narrative and rewrite the belief
Whether you’re facing addiction, anxiety, depression, or isolation—this episode reminds you: you’re not alone, and your story is not your identity.
