What makes someone a true disciple of Jesus? In this homily, Fr. Rob explores Jesus' challenge to the religious leaders who appeared faithful on the outside but struggled to live out God's love in their daily lives. Drawing a modern comparison, he contrasts outward religious practice with a life marked by mercy, generosity, and service to others.
Fr. Rob reminds us that faith is meant to be more than attendance, routines, or appearances. While prayer, worship, and participation in the sacramental life are essential, they are meant to transform the way we treat our neighbors. A heart open to love, compassion, stewardship, and service reflects the very life of Christ.
This message is also a source of hope for parents and loved ones concerned about those who have drifted away from the Church. God continues to work in every human heart, drawing people closer to Himself through acts of love, generosity, and goodness. Ultimately, discipleship is not about perfection or self-righteousness. It is about continually trusting God, remaining open to conversion, and allowing His love to shape the way we live.
