Pilgrim sits down with Pastor Bob Franquiz of Calvary Church in Miramar, Florida. They talk about his path from Calvary Chapel Bible College student to pastor and church planter. Along the way he shares stories of calling, preparation and trusting God's provision.

In this episode

• Bob's bobblehead collection (400+, mostly Star Wars) and the bookshelf he organizes by Eddie Van Halen
• Why he threw away the Bible college application twice, and how a friend named George got him to enroll
• Leaving his band to commit to Bible college, ministry and marriage
• Serving at Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale, from setting up chairs to running the Bible college at age 23
• Why Bible college matters: learning from practitioners, studying Scripture verse by verse, and preparing spiritually, culturally and as a leader
• "You can be as called as a person can be called and stink." Calling and quality aren't the same, because quality takes preparation.
• 26 years in the same church, and being "the pastor of the city"
• His advice to students: say yes to ministry opportunities (hospital visits, weddings, funerals, teaching)
• A sound system arrived in the mail just when he needed one, and what it taught him: "God has resources that we know nothing of."
• The current growth season, evangelism, and the building project
• Rapid-fire round: Chuck Smith, church planting, Darth Vader and more
