People remember Jesus’ power, healings, and authority. Those who traveled beside him also saw his exhaustion: the dust on his feet, the interrupted meals, the sleepless nights, and the endless procession of people bringing sickness, sorrow, questions, and accusations.
One disciple recalls the storm in which Jesus slept through waves filling the boat—not merely from peaceful confidence, but from complete physical exhaustion. He remembers how Jesus withdrew to pray, only for the crowds to find him again.
Then, on the mountain of the Transfiguration, the disciple briefly sees Jesus radiant, peaceful, honored, and free from human demands. No one asks him for anything. For one moment, he appears at home. But after descending, Jesus immediately encounters an anguished father, a suffering child, an arguing crowd, and disciples who could not help.
This fictional account presents the Transfiguration through the eyes of someone who feels sorrow for an exhausted Master—and recognizes that his compassion is stronger than his tiredness.
