The series Recorded History is hosted by Ty J. McCormack. In the program, he goes over the history of vinyl records, cassette tapes, compact discs, and now streaming as well as how that affected how we listen to music. He also goes over how each item is produced, giving the listener a behind the scenes look at how the music we listen to is made. Special guests appear on every episode and range from academics who know the context to musicians who produce and release their own music independently.Copyright WGAO/Dean College Mondiale
  • Recorded History Episode #1
    Oct 13 2026
In the first episode of Recorded History, we focus on vinyl records. We start with their origin about how they evolved from wax cylinders. Ty also gives an in-depth overview of how a record is pressed and how the sounds come from the disc. Recorded History is also joined by Audio Engineer Don Godwin, who works for Smithsonian’s Folkways Recordings to discuss how vinyl has changed over his thirty-year career.
