  • Cinema Against The State: A Conversation with Hazel
    Jul 1 2025

    Send us a text

Hazel—video editor, filmmaker, Peertuber, and self-described Jewish Gore Whore—joins me today for philosophical exploration of our relationship to art. Representing the hazels plural system, Hazel discusses plurality, punk filmmaking in the age of online video, and the emotional labor it takes to reclaim storytelling as a tool of resistance.

    In this episode, we unpack:

    • The politics of imagination: storytelling sovereignty vs. colonizers of the imagination
    • Reclaiming outsider art and creating work that isn’t state- or capital-approved
    • The aesthetics and ethics of low-budget horror, and working beyond traditional narrative forms - an anarchist approach to art
    • The need for queer rage in art
    • A vision of cinema unshackled from theatre and the novel—and what emotional catharsis looks like without plot

  • Do Celebrity Endorsements Matter? Taylor Swift, Chappell Roan, and the 2024 Presidential Election Hysteria
    Oct 3 2024

    Send us a text

In this timely episode, Nix dives into the world of celebrity endorsements and their influence, or lack thereof, on U.S. presidential elections by comparing and contrasting Taylor Swift's endorsement of Kamala Harris vs Chappell Roan's refusal to endorse anyone, the public response to each, and my thoughts about it all.

    I also discuss:

    • The influence of celebrity endorsements on presidential elections,
    • Issues with political discourse surrounding high-profile endorsements,
    • What celebrities "owe" us when it comes to their platforms,
    • And the overall harm of the internet's fixation on celebrity endorsements.

Additionally, I address the recent execution of Marcellus Williams and the upcoming execution of Robert Roberson.

  • URGENT Call to Action + Moving Past the 'Harris or Trump' Ultimatum
    Sep 20 2024

PLEASE HELP MARCELLUS WILLIAMS: savemarcellus.org. He will be executed on Sept. 24th, 2024 if we can't convince Gov. Parson of Missouri to stop it. Please call, email, post, and share.

In the main episode, Nic talks about the current presidential election and how Democrats are playing chicken with voters, attempting to win over Republicans while neglecting their progressive base. Despite these dangerous and offensive tactics, the anyone who attempts to critique Harris or demand better before committing their vote is screamed at and told, "Enjoy four more years of Trump, then!"

This episode explores the dangers of this one-sided electoral strategy and critiques the loud calls to "vote blue," which often ignore the complexities of voter concerns and facilitate the Democratic Party's pulling the nation further to the right as they YET AGAIN run on a campaign of, "Vote for me because I'm not him."
