Some love her, for others she tastes like soap. Is Melanie Klein the coriander of psychoanalysis? I’m not a Kleinian but I still use her best ideas in my work all the time. In this video I want to share: What I leave behind on the buffet (her deep interpretations and her child analysis) and what I take from Klein (the two positions as modes of experience, and her focus on the impact of aggression).🎓 MELANIE KLEIN COURSEMy Melanie Klein Course takes you from the life and death instinct, unconscious phantasy all the way to the paranoid-schizoid and depressive position, projective identification, and envy → https://psychodynamicpsychology.com/melanie-klein-course💌 Psychodynamic Newsletter → https://psychodynamicpsychology.myflodesk.com/newsletter🟡 Instagram → https://instagram.com/psychodynamicpsychologyTIMESTAMPS00:00 Klein for non-Kleinians1:40 What I leave: deep interpretations5:52 What I leave: Klein’s child analysis8:10 What I take: The paranoid-schizoid and depressive position11:16 What I take: The impact of internal factors (aggression)DISCLAIMER: The content provided is for educational, informational, and entertainment purposes only. Object relations theory... sure. But what about object relations in PRACTICE? Enter Betty Joseph and a 17-page paper (digestible psychodynamic literature for once). In proper Kleinian fashion, she lays out how projection (and projective identification) in the transference can help understand how object relations come alive in the session.
