In this episode of Power Struggle, Stewart Muir welcomes back Shannon Joseph, President of Energy for a Secure Future, fresh off a year of international missions meeting with ambassadors and diplomats from Taiwan, South Korea, India, and the Philippines, and leading trade delegations to Japan alongside First Nations and industry leaders. Joseph shares what she's learned straight from the world's energy customers—including how the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz reshaped the conversation around natural gas security across Asia.

They discuss:

• The view from the world's energy-importing nations, and why countries like the Philippines are "150%" behind Canadian LNG
• How Hormuz disrupted 20% of the world's natural gas supply and what that meant for global energy security
• Why renewables can't do it alone in geographies like Japan and Vietnam, and what "energy addition" really means
• The findings of ESF's new report, "When Our Nation Builds," on the real-world impact of LNG Canada and Coastal GasLink
• What the data shows would have happened if the Coastal GasLink pipeline had been cancelled—and what actually happened instead
• A $19,000–$26,000 annual income boost, 215 more Indigenous language speakers, and other benefits flowing to 20 First Nations and 20 municipalities along the corridor
• Why the upstream Montney Basin matters as much as the export terminals themselves
• The shifting politics of public trust, community benefits, and Indigenous leadership in Canada's energy debate

This is a conversation about diplomacy, data, and what it actually takes to build public understanding of Canada's role as a global energy supplier. As global demand keeps climbing and geopolitical shocks keep multiplying, the case for Canadian LNG isn't theoretical anymore—it's showing up in the numbers.

Can a Calgary startup with a Cree First Nation as its largest shareholder build Canada's next great LNG project?

In this episode of Power Struggle, recorded with Robert Delamar calling in from Tokyo at 6 a.m., Stewart Muir is joined by the co-founder and CEO of Kanata Clean Power and Climate Technologies Corp to unpack one of the biggest energy stories Canadians haven't heard yet.

Last week in Vancouver, Delamar and his partners announced Kanata LNG — a proposed 12 million tonne per annum facility in the Prince Rupert area that would match the scale of LNG Canada and anchor a new energy hub for northwestern BC. The company's largest shareholder is Frog Lake First Nations, a Cree nation in northeast Alberta, and the project is being built on a 50/50 co-development model with First Nations rights and title holders in the region.

They discuss:

• How displacing coal with Canadian natural gas could cut global power emissions in half—roughly 10% of all greenhouse gas emissions on Earth
• Why Japan, Korea, and India are looking to Canada for energy security after the Strait of Hormuz crisis
• The cost problem: why coal is half the price of LNG and how Canada can still compete
• The Major Projects Office, the end of the consumer carbon tax, and the policy conditions making this moment possible
• The Frog Lake First Nations model—50/50 governance, shared wealth, and a template for what Indigenous partnership looks like in 2026
• Why the Montney basin alone could supply Japan's thermal power needs for 200 years
• The 12-year journey, the dozen co-founders who went years without paycheques, and what Canada can learn from Silicon Valley
• Why "how would you do that" beats "that's a dumb idea" as a response to audacious projects

This is a conversation about ambition, partnership, and the entrepreneurial culture Canada needs to build the energy superpower it keeps talking about.

At a time when allies are reaching out for secure supply and global emissions keep climbing, the case for Canadian LNG has rarely been clearer.

The question is no longer whether Canada has the resources or the partners to build at this scale — but whether it has the courage to back the people willing to try.

Is the world quietly turning to Canadian propane—and is Canada ready to meet the demand?

In this episode of Power Struggle, recorded at the Global Energy Show in Calgary, Stewart Muir is joined by Chris Prokop, Senior Vice President of Export Development and External Affairs at AltaGas, to unpack one of Canada's most underappreciated energy success stories.

From Ridley Island in Prince Rupert to demand centres in Japan, Korea, China, and India, Prokop explains how AltaGas built a propane and butane export business that now ships 40% of Canada's propane — and why the world keeps asking for more.

They discuss:

• Why LPG matters far beyond barbecues—cooking, heating, petrochemicals, and daily life for billions.
• The RIPET terminal, the REEF expansion, and what's being built on Ridley Island
• Canada's shipping advantage: 10 days to Asia from Prince Rupert vs. 28 from Houston and 35 from the Middle East
• The Montney's liquids-rich geology and the natural synergy between LNG and LPG production
• Why Canadian producers can fetch $90 a barrel for propane in China versus $30 in the United States
• The Strait of Hormuz, energy security, and India's pivot toward Canadian supply
• How propane could replace wood and dung cookstoves in millions of homes across the developing world
• Regulatory reform, First Nations partnership, and how AltaGas built in Prince Rupert without controversy

This is a conversation about energy, infrastructure, and a window of opportunity Canada cannot afford to miss.

At a time when allies are reaching out for secure supply and global energy demand keeps climbing, Canada's west coast position has rarely mattered more.

The question is no longer whether the world wants Canadian energy—but how quickly Canada can deliver it.

Is Canada ready to tell a clearer story about why its energy matters to the world?

In this episode of Power Struggle, Stewart Muir is joined by Dr. David Detomasi, Professor of International Business at Queen's Smith School of Business and author of Profits and Power: Navigating the Politics and Geopolitics of Oil, to examine why energy is never just a commodity—and why Canada keeps falling short of its own ambitions.

From classroom hostility toward fossil fuels to the geopolitical weight of LNG, pipelines, and critical minerals, Detomasi explains why the country has the ingredients to be an energy superpower but has yet to build the narrative—or the infrastructure—to become one.

They discuss:

• Why oil is a political instrument, not just a commodity
• The reality of global energy poverty and why two billion people still lack reliable power
• What it actually means to be an "energy superpower," and why the term has eluded Canada for 20 years
• The trade-offs of energy transition and the false either/or of carbon vs. renewables
• How Canadian LNG and natural gas can influence emissions in China, India, and Southeast Asia
• Trans Mountain, Bill C-69, and the lessons of getting big projects built
• Shifting public opinion, polling cycles, and the need for durable reasons to build
• What young people misunderstand about how the energy system actually works

This is a conversation about energy, narrative, and national purpose at a moment when Canada's global role is being rewritten in real time.

At a time when allies are scrambling for secure supply and the post-war trade order is fraying, Canada's resource wealth has rarely mattered more—or been more underused.

The question is no longer whether Canada has the ingredients to be an energy superpower, but whether it can finally explain why it should be one.

How do you power the places the grid forgot — and could nuclear be the answer?

In this episode, Stewart Muir is joined by Dr. Anthony Ciccone, Senior Vice President of the Global Nuclear Sector at WSP, to explore how small modular reactors could transform energy access in some of the most challenging environments on Earth.

From Canada’s Arctic to remote regions around the world, Ciccone explains why traditional energy solutions often fall short — and how advanced nuclear technologies are changing the equation.

They discuss:

• Why remote and northern communities still rely on diesel — and the risks involved
• How small modular reactors (SMRs) could provide reliable, low-carbon power
• Why nuclear and renewables are complementary, not competing technologies
• Canada’s advantage in nuclear innovation and reactor refurbishment
• The realities of nuclear waste — and how it’s managed
• The economics of nuclear energy and long-term cost considerations
• Energy needs of mining, military, and northern communities
• What the future of nuclear looks like in Canada and globally

This is a conversation about energy, infrastructure, and the realities of powering communities far beyond the grid.

At a time when energy security and sustainability are both critical priorities, nuclear is re-emerging as a practical solution — not just for cities, but for the most remote parts of the world.

The question is no longer whether nuclear is part of the future — but where it will be deployed first.
