Episode 1: Sometimes You Have to Go Back to Go Forward
Sometimes moving forward requires us to first identify where the shift happened.
In the first episode of the Pivotal Points series, “Sometimes You Have to Go Back to Go Forward,” we explore how experiences such as rejection, loss, abandonment, disappointment, and trauma can quietly influence the way we see ourselves. Somewhere along the way, what happened to us can become what we believe about ourselves—and eventually, we may begin calling a survival response our identity.
This episode challenges adults to go back, not to remain in the past or reopen old wounds, but to locate the root of beliefs and behaviors that may still be affecting the present. We also explore the importance of establishing children early in an identity rooted in Christ so that when life challenges them, they already have a foundation of truth to stand on.
The question isn't simply, “What's wrong with me?”
It's:
“When did I first start believing this about myself?”
Because going back isn't the destination. It's how we identify where we got off course so God can deal with the root, restore our identity, and lead us forward.
Sometimes you have to go back—not to become who you were, but to understand what happened so you can become who God called you to be.
