  • LAZY SINCE 1851? Psychologist reacts to DaVinci on Cam Newton's "Funky Friday"
    Oct 7 2026
BMF star Da'Vinchi told Cam Newton that Hollywood producers may prefer overseas actors, and that Americans have been "lazy" and "incompetent." But "lazy" didn't start with him. In 1851, a Louisiana doctor named Samuel Cartwright invented a "disease" to explain why enslaved Black people wouldn't work hard enough. His cure was the whip. The stereotype was never about Black people. It was a defense of the people exploiting them, and it's still with us. I'm Dr. Chanda Reynolds, a licensed clinical psychologist. In this video I break down what I call diaspora elitism: where it comes from, how I saw it firsthand at my HBCU and in the DMV, what The Real Housewives of Potomac shows us about it, and why racism doesn't check your passport. Where are your people from, and have you felt this from either side? Tell me in the comments. Let's actually talk to each other. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
