Director Padraic McKinley joins the podcast to discuss The Weight, his new film starring Ethan Hawke and Russell Crowe, in theaters September 18th.
Set in Oregon in 1933, the film follows a man who is torn from his daughter and sent to a brutal work camp. He is tempted by the prison warden with early release if he smuggles gold through the deadly wilderness, but betrayal festers within the crew, and he questions how far he'll go to see his child again.
McKinley breaks down his collaboration with his cinematographer on the film's shot choices and lens work, his innovative approach to editing key sequences, shooting the film's tense set pieces and car chase, and how his background as an editor shapes his approach to directing.
🎬 The Weight hits movie theaters September 18th.
