Billie Eilish, the Grammy-winning minimalist chanteuse, challenges the very idea of origin. In her art and identity, she rejects the very idea that who she was yesterday is who she has to be tomorrow.

"There is that celebration after a struggle. I try to be the calm after the storm."

Koffee, the Jamaican-born Reggae artist and the youngest person to ever win Best Reggae album, reflects on the importance of trusting her instincts and her love of the island that nurtured her creativity.

"I think when things are painful, they're usually good at the end. I don't.... I'm not somebody who shies away from leaning into my pain, at all."

King Princess, the non-binary singer-songwriter from Brooklyn, takes on origin in the frame of identity, a place where we are formed, informed, and then transformed.

Flying Lotus, the prolific producer/DJ, looks at origin through the lens of loss and longing to consider if the most powerful lessons are those that encourage us to return to the simplest version of our story.

Mickey Guyton, an African-American country music artist, lives a story full of triumph in the face of rejection and unpacks her origin as a survivor.

"I believe that you need to be around people that are different than you, but accept you.”

Tobe Nwigwe is a Texan rapper of Nigerian descent whose origins have led him far from his initial professional football ambitions. He revisits the path that led him to his true calling.

“I can do so much more than be a pop star.”

Doja Cat, the multi-award-winning rapper/singer, has created an origin through costume and character, yet is in constant exploration of the catalyst of her own artistic expression.
