The Prophet of Chatsworth: Fred King and the Church of Jesus Christ Restored

For decades, a former ski resort near Chatsworth, Ontario was the home base of the Church of Jesus Christ Restored, led by Fred King, whom his followers called the Prophet. Members were taught that his word was God’s. Court heard that Sunday services could run from 6 p.m. until 6 a.m., and that King singled people out for what he called corrections and chastisements: yelling, hair-pulling, public humiliation, and beatings in front of the congregation.

After a former member, Carol Christie, spoke out in her book and on CTV’s W5, OPP spent 16 months investigating. In April 2014, King was arrested and faced 31 charges. In May 2016, four days before trial, he pleaded guilty to nine assaults. The sexual allegations were withdrawn, and the court heard no explanation.

Joining me is Mike King of Profiling Evil (no relation to Fred King), who explains why predators use faith as a costume and what to watch for in any group.

Content note: This episode discusses physical abuse, public humiliation, and allegations of sexual abuse involving adults and children. Listener discretion is advised. All allegations that did not result in a conviction are unproven.

Guest Mike King, Profiling Evil, author of Wolves in Sheep’s Clothing. His live tour, The Psychology of Cults, is at psychologyofcults.com. Mike is not related to Fred King.

    Please Help Find Justin Pollari

    Full story : https://open.substack.com/pub/ontariocoldcase/p/the-skateboard-stayed-behind-the?r=2bvz9&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=true

Justin "Woody" Pollari was 14 when he disappeared from St. Joseph Island, Ontario on Friday, December 7, 2001. He'd be 39 now.

For almost 25 years they've called him a runaway. But he left everything — his clothes, his money, the board that never left his side — and vanished without a trace. That's not a runaway.

The people who know are on that island, and some of them will never phone a tip line or talk to police. But they'll talk to me, face to face, once they trust me. And there are locals holding pieces of this who never see a post like this at all. The only way to reach them is to **be there** — in the community, knocking on doors.

That's what the family's fund is for. Not overhead — the drive north, the days on the island, the conversations that only happen in person: https://gofund.me/d0d07a9de

Jay Nicoll is a licensed private investigator (Nicoll Investigations, Richmond Hill, Ontario) and host of the Ontario Cold Cases podcast. Allegations referenced are under investigation and are not findings of fact.

  • You Don't Just Vanish Off An Island - The Disappearance of Justin Pollari

You Don't Just Vanish Off An Island - The Disappearance of Justin Pollari

For almost 25 years, Justin Pollari's disappearance has been dismissed as a runaway. Four months and 60+ witnesses later, the evidence says otherwise — and a formal submission to the OPP is in preparation. But the last stretch of this case can't be worked from southern Ontario. The people who know what happened are on St. Joseph Island. Some of them, for their own reasons, will never sit down with police — but they'll talk, in person, to an investigator they've come to trust. Others are older residents who never see a social media post at all, and can only be reached by knocking on the door. This fund pays for exactly that: getting onto the island and staying long enough to do it right — the travel, the days on the ground, the face-to-face conversations that finally move a 25-year-old case. Every dollar is a mile closer to bringing Justin home.

  • Justin Pollari — A Property For Sale, And A Race Against Time
    Jun 27 2026

Justin Pollari — A Property For Sale, And A Race Against Time

We can now account for almost every hour of Justin Pollari's final day on December 7, 2001. A restaurant earlier that day. A friend's place where people saw him drinking with other teens. The Community Hall later that night — where his father came in and forcibly removed him. The moment he returned. A play-fight outside that gave him a cut lip. A ride home from two friends. We've also confirmed something the original investigation never did: the abuse Justin was living with at home — confirmed by a teacher, a school principal, and a childhood friend who spoke to him two months before he disappeared.

And now we need help, urgently. A property has been identified — confirmed by Justin's mother as one his father used — where a witness who worked there believes Justin is buried. That property is currently for sale. If it changes hands and is disturbed, evidence could be lost.

We're preparing a formal OPP submission. This is the moment that matters most.

  • Justin Pollari — Investigation Update: New Tips, Corroborated Evidence, and What Comes Next
    Jun 5 2026
Justin Pollari — Investigation Update: New Tips, Corroborated Evidence, and What Comes Next

When I first took on the Justin Pollari case in March of this year, I described it as one of the most preventably unsolved cases I had encountered. A 14-year-old classified as a runaway on the basis of a single family account. Friends who tried to give police information and were dismissed. A basement with a dirt floor that became cement in the weeks after his disappearance. I published a full investigative article here in April. Since then, a lot has happened.

The media response After SooToday and Village Report picked up the story, tips began arriving. I want to be careful about what I say publicly here because a formal OPP submission is being prepared and I do not want to compromise that process. But I can tell you that several of the tips received since the story went public have directly corroborated information I had gathered through independent research and through witness contact earlier in the investigation. Some have added new details I did not previously have. The picture of what happened on St. Joseph Island on December 7, 2001 is substantially clearer than it was when I started this file.

What is confirmed: Justin was not a runaway. Eyewitnesses who were with him on the night of his disappearance have provided accounts that have never been part of any formal investigation. His confirmed last location has been established through independent witness corroboration. The formal OPP submission is being prepared and will include witness statements, documented evidence, and specific investigative recommendations regarding locations that were never searched.

What I still need: To complete this investigation properly — to travel to St. Joseph Island, conduct in-person witness interviews, pursue the forensic leads, and prepare a submission that the OPP cannot easily set aside — I need continued funding.

Justin's mother, Lori Smith, has directed all GoFundMe contributions directly to the investigation. We are currently at 14% of our goal. The goal covers travel, witness interview documentation, legal consultation, and the costs of a professional submission package.

If you have been following this investigation and believe — as I do — that Justin Pollari's case deserves the kind of attention it was denied in 2001, please consider contributing or sharing.

GoFundMe: Please consider donating to help continue this investigation

Justin would be 39 years old today. His mother has never stopped looking. Neither will I.

Tragic Update: Missing 90-Year-Old Toronto Man Located Deceased

This is an Ontario Cold Cases - Canada’s True Crime Podcast Special Edition

Our hearts go out to the family, friends, and east-end Toronto community following the sad news about 90-year-old Joseph.

He was last seen around midnight on January 29, 2026, near Coxwell Avenue and Gerrard Street East. Police had shared that he may have been driving a greyish-blue Toyota Corolla and was without his necessary medication due to health conditions.

After widespread public appeals and a search that lasted nearly two weeks, Toronto Police confirmed on February 11 that Joseph was located deceased. The investigation remains ongoing, but authorities have stated it does not appear to be a criminal matter.

This heartbreaking resolution highlights the vulnerability of our seniors, especially in extreme weather, and the importance of community vigilance in missing persons cases.

    Rest in peace, Joseph.
