  • Trial by Social Media: Lindsay Clancy, the McDonald’s Coffee Case & What the Public Misses

Trial by Social Media: Lindsay Clancy, the McDonald’s Coffee Case & What the Public Misses
    Sep 22 2026
In this episode of Off the Record, Paul Adam and Colin Gerstner examine how high-profile court cases can take on a very different life once they move from the courtroom to television, social media, and public commentary. Using the Lindsay Clancy murder trial and the famous McDonald's hot coffee case as examples, they discuss the gap between the evidence jurors actually hear and the short clips, headlines, and narratives the public often sees. The conversation covers the burden of proof in criminal cases, hung juries and mistrials, motions in limine, mental-health defenses, compensatory and punitive damages, and comparative negligence. Paul and Colin also revisit the facts behind Stella Liebeck's McDonald's lawsuit, including the severity of her burns and the jury's finding that she shared some responsibility for the accident. Their larger point is that a viral clip or simplified headline rarely captures the legal issues, admissible evidence, and hours of testimony that shape an actual trial—and that understanding the legal process requires more than reacting to the most shareable moment.

From Loss to Legacy: The Story of the Ramsey Keller Memorial
    Sep 18 2026
In this episode of Off the Record, Paul Adam and Colin Gerstner sit down with Jeff and Kori Keller to share the story behind the Ramsey Keller Memorial. Jeff and Kori begin with the story of how they met, their marriage, their three sons, and the decision to grow their family again. In November 2011, their daughter Ramsey was born with hydrops fetalis and spent two days in the NICU before passing away. As Jeff and Kori worked through their grief, one experience stayed with them: Kori's father had paid for Ramsey's funeral, allowing them to make decisions about honoring their daughter without worrying about the cost. Realizing that many grieving families don't have that same financial freedom led them to create the Ramsey Keller Memorial. Today, the memorial helps Montana families with funeral expenses following the loss of a baby and provides support to parents navigating an unimaginable time. Jeff and Kori discuss the families they've met, the role their faith has played in their journey, and the community that has helped the organization grow. They also share the stories behind fundraising events including Run for Heaven's Sake, the Pink Tie Affair, the annual $23 November campaign honoring Ramsey's November 23 birthday, and the memorial's golf tournament. The episode closes on a lighter note as Jeff and Kori face off in a competitive round of Taylor Swift, baseball, and golf trivia—with Kori ultimately taking the win.
