Why do we treat “no” like the beginning of a negotiation?
In relationships, friendships, dating, and even family dynamics, we’re often taught to explain ourselves, soften the blow, and make our boundaries easier for other people to accept. But sometimes, no is a complete sentence—and it doesn’t require a presentation, an apology, or a second chance to convince you.
This week on Modern Day Bae, we’re talking about the power of saying no, the discomfort that comes when someone doesn’t accept your answer, and the difference between communication and constantly having to defend your boundaries.
Because respecting someone doesn’t mean agreeing with their decision. And loving someone doesn’t mean you’re entitled to access they’ve said no to.
So what happens when “no” isn’t respected?
When does asking for clarity become pressure?
And have we become so accustomed to explaining ourselves that we’ve forgotten we’re allowed to simply decide?
Sometimes the answer is no.
And no is the final answer.
