Instead of being killed, the radiation altered his body, triggering a transformation into a monstrous, super-strong being known as the Hulk. This change is not random; it is tied directly to Banner's emotions, with moments of intense stress or rage causing him to transform, becoming an embodiment of his own deeply buried anger and inner turmoil. The Hulk is a separate and often destructive personality, a direct contrast to the intellectual and reserved man that is Bruce Banner.
