People don't call us because they need a mortgage. They call us because they need help making a housing decision. Mortgage Matters is a Las Vegas, Nevada-based radio show and podcast hosted by mortgage advisors Roland Daniels (NMLS 355859) and Heidi Griffith (NMLS 2247754) with Geneva Financial. Airing every Sunday at 7:30 AM on KUNV 91.5 and available wherever you listen to podcasts, the show explores the real-life decisions, opportunities, challenges, and financial realities that shape where and how we live. Every week, Roland and Heidi tackle the housing conversations people are already having around kitchen tables, at family gatherings, and on social media. Should I buy or wait? Is my first home supposed to be my dream home? Should I move up, downsize, invest, or stay put? How do I build wealth through real estate? What's the smartest use of my money? Through honest conversations and practical guidance, they help listeners make sense of the choices involved in renting, buying, selling, investing, and planning for the future. Drawing on decades of mortgage and housing experience, Roland and Heidi break down real mortgage questions, homeownership strategies, down payment assistance programs, FHA loans, VA loans, conventional financing, housing affordability, wealth-building opportunities, and the financial realities that influence housing decisions. Mortgage Matters also shines a spotlight on the people and organizations working to strengthen communities across Las Vegas and Nevada. Through conversations with housing advocates, nonprofit leaders, educators, elected officials, and local changemakers, the show explores the issues that affect housing, opportunity, economic mobility, fair housing, and homeownership throughout Southern Nevada. Roland and Heidi are active community educators who lead free homebuyer workshops across Nevada in partnership with organizations including the Nevada Housing Division, Chicanos Por La Causa (CPLC), and Nevada Rural Housing Authority. Roland serves as a director with the local chapter of the National Association of Real Estate Brokers (NAREB), and Heidi serves as President of the Silver State Fair Housing Council, where Roland is also a board member. Together, they bring mortgage expertise, housing advocacy, community involvement, and a passion for helping people make informed housing decisions to every episode.© 2026 Mortgage Matters Economia
  • Finding a Home and a Payment You Can Afford: Exploring Nevada Rural Housing Options
    Oct 11 2026

You want a home of your own. But between home prices, interest rates, and saving enough for your down payment and closing costs, the numbers can feel like they just won’t work.

Could there be options closer to home than you think?

Heidi and Roland welcome Kevin Hickey from Nevada Rural Housing back to talk about the Rural Rocks program’s $20,000 in down payment assistance and why “rural” doesn’t necessarily mean leaving Las Vegas. One neighborhood’s home prices might make you take a second look at what’s possible.

With funding running low at the time of recording, Kevin explains what’s changing and what other assistance remains available.

And we talk about a question that matters just as much as getting approved: Will that payment leave room for the life you want to live?

  • High Mortgage Rates: Should You Buy a Home or Wait?
    Oct 4 2026

You want a home of your own. But with mortgage rates where they are, you don’t want to make a decision you’ll regret.

Do you keep waiting? Or could buying still make sense?

Heidi and Roland talk honestly about that decision. There’s no promise that rates will drop soon, and “you can always refinance” isn’t enough when you’re the one making the payment.

But there may be options you haven’t considered. Why would two buyers who already have 20% down choose down payment assistance? Their stories show why the rate alone doesn’t tell you everything.

Because getting the keys should still leave room for the life you want to live.

  • The Hidden Math of Homebuying: What That Car Payment and Lower Rate Really Cost
    Sep 20 2026

A lower interest rate sounds better. A $700 car payment might not seem like a housing decision. But when you're buying a home, one number rarely tells the whole story.

This week on Mortgage Matters, Heidi and Roland put real numbers behind two common financial decisions. They show how a new car payment could dramatically change your home buying power, why great credit and a high income don't automatically mean you'll qualify for more, and why the lowest mortgage rate isn't always the least expensive option.

They also break down discount points using a simple example: Would it make sense to spend $8,000 upfront to save about $133 a month? How long would it take to break even, and what happens if you sell or refinance before then?

Plus, Heidi explains how fair housing testing works and how Silver State Fair Housing Council uses trained community members to help identify possible housing discrimination.
