  • Is Lake Lanier really haunted? | More to the Story Ep. 3
    Oct 26 2026

The Gainesville Times team has been working on something extra special: More to the Story, our new podcast taking you beyond the headlines and into the stories shaping Hall County. In this month's episode, life reporter Adriana Cascio heads out to the waters of Lake Lanier with Capt. Tom Stepnowski, local historian and owner of the Lake Lanier Haunted Experience boat tour. Aside from its beautiful scenery and recreational activities, the lore of Lake Lanier is filled with stories of buried towns, tragic incidents and even reported ghost sightings. But how much of its reputation is actually rooted in history and not just a legend? Tune in as we uncover what's really lurking beneath the surface of Lake Lanier.

(Update: After receiving the audio files that were recorded on the island from Stepnowski, Adrianna and Ashtin both listened to the recordings and didn't hear any responses to the questions.)
