What does it actually feel like to be new to Magic: The Gathering?

In this episode of Moonshot the Gathering, I’m sitting down with PocketHaze to talk about her journey into Magic, from learning the game and finding those first cards that made her fall in love with it, to becoming part of the LGS community.
We talk about the things that make learning Magic confusing, what she wishes someone had told her before her first game, the surprises of joining the Magic community, and what it’s like to experience the game from behind the counter at an LGS.
We also get into the fun stuff: favorite cards, favorite formats, Magic pet peeves, what kind of player she thinks she is, and where she hopes Magic takes her next.

Whether you’re brand new to Magic, still figuring out what kind of player you are, or you’ve been shuffling up for years, there’s something here for you. Because there’s no one right way to love Magic.

What is it actually like to spend nearly a decade working in a local game store?
In this episode, Queen Honey sits down with Sarah to talk about her 9 years working in an LGS and the perspective that comes from seeing Magic: The Gathering from behind the counter. We get into what players don't always see like the day-to-day realities of running events and building community to the memorable people, strange situations, changing Magic culture, and everything that comes with being part of an LGS.
Sarah shares what she's learned from watching players come and go, helping new people find their place in Magic, and experiencing the game from a completely different side of the table.
Whether you've worked at an LGS, practically live at your local store, or have always wondered what happens behind the scenes, this episode gives you a look at the people, community, and chaos that make an LGS what it is.

Welcome to Moonshot: The Gathering! Queen Honey kicks things off with Moonshot founder Jayson Manship for a conversation about Magic, the story behind Moonshot, building community, and why we wanted to start this podcast in the first place. We talk competitive Magic, Jayson’s very specific love for Peasant 250, what makes this game so good at bringing people together, and where we hope to take the show from here. This is just the beginning. 🌙
