Santa Carla looks like a beach town postcard until you notice the missing-person posters stacked like wallpaper and the “murder capital” joke stops feeling like a joke. We put on our best spooky-season mindset and rewatched 1987’s The Lost Boys, starting with how we saw it: the 4K re-release. We talk about what a new transfer actually changes, why darker scenes can live or die on grain and contrast, and how a movie this moody can look almost too clean when the scan is sharp.

From there, we get into what makes The Lost Boys such a lasting vampire movie. The lore is familiar, but the vibe is new: teen vampires as a nightlife fantasy that flips into a nightmare, with peer pressure standing in for the bite. We break down the rules the film plays with, the running “don’t invite them in” warning, and how the movie keeps vampires hidden just long enough to make the reveals hit. Then we go character by character, from Jason Patric’s Michael to Corey Haim’s Sam, the Frog Brothers’ dead-serious hunter routine, and Kiefer Sutherland’s David proving you can be menacing with barely any lines.

We also spend time where this movie really flexes: the soundtrack. Cry Little Sister, the Doors-adjacent mood, and yes, the boardwalk saxophone moment that nobody forgets. We wrap with favorite scenes, practical effects tricks, Santa Carla world building, our spooky meter score, and the Grandpa payoff that lands like a perfect final punchline.
