Karen’s daughter, Lorrin was born in1994. At six weeks, she had an adverse reaction to her one and only DPT vaccination leaving her with severe brain damage. The doctors never had hope for Lorrin’s future and suggested Karen get on with her life. Feeling abandoned by modern medicine, Karen turned to alternative treatments and spiritual guidance. Despite all of Karen’s best efforts, Lorrin continued to have horrible episodes of uncontrolled seizures that would land them in the hospital for days. Karen spent every fiber of her being creating as normal life as possible for her daughter. She enrolled Lorrin in regular schools; encouraged sleep overs with her girlfriends, provided horseback riding lessons, and enrolled Lorrin in the Miss Teen Pasadena Pageant. Lorrin experienced a full life within her restricted physical environment; yet unlimited spiritual environment. Karen’s mission was successful; however short lived. But Lorrin lived a unique life fully lived.
