Kansas State football faces growing quarterback uncertainty as Avery Johnson battles an injury, while the Big 12 quarterback race takes an unexpected turn.

On this Locked On College Crossover, Locked On Kansas State and Locked On UCF break down the conference's quarterback hierarchy, Kansas State's injury concerns, and the changing Big 12 championship race.

With Avery Johnson's availability uncertain and injuries affecting Kansas State's quarterback depth, the Wildcats face important questions heading into their matchup against Colorado.

Meanwhile, UCF quarterback Ke'Juan Jenkins has emerged as one of the Big 12's most intriguing stories following a massive upset of BYU.

Is Jenkins entering the conversation alongside Baylor's Conner Weigman, BYU's Bear Bachmeier, Arizona's Noah Fifita and North Texas transfer Drew Mestemaker?

We revisit our preseason quarterback rankings and debate which players have exceeded expectations.

Plus, is BYU still the best team in the Big 12 despite losing to UCF? Can Utah, Arizona or Texas Tech take control of the championship race? And could the conference send multiple teams to the College Football Playoff?

Finally, we examine Scott Frost's remarkable turnaround at UCF and whether the Knights can win out against Baylor, Kansas, Arizona State, Iowa State and Colorado.

Can Kansas State overcome its quarterback injuries? Who is the Big 12's best quarterback? And which team will reach Arlington?

Kansas State football enters its Big 12 matchup against Cincinnati at 3-0 as Collin Klein and the Wildcats continue emerging as a potential conference championship contender.

Kansas State has quietly impressed in the trenches despite replacing most of its offensive line and losing a returning starter during fall camp. The Wildcats have still developed one of the highest-rated blocking units in college football according to the discussion, continuing a longstanding K-State strength at the line of scrimmage.

But Kansas State vs. Cincinnati is only part of a massive Big 12 weekend.

Oklahoma State travels to West Virginia for one of the conference’s biggest games, featuring quarterbacks Micah Hawkins and Drew Mestemaker. Both teams have an opportunity to strengthen their College Football Playoff résumés and establish themselves as legitimate Big 12 contenders.

Colorado and Baylor also meet in an important matchup after Colorado’s difficult loss to Northwestern. With Texas Tech, Utah, Oklahoma State and Kansas State looming on Colorado’s schedule, the pressure surrounding the Buffaloes could increase quickly.

Plus, TCU travels to UCF, Houston visits Georgia Southern, and the Big 12 continues searching for teams capable of separating themselves in the conference race.

Kansas State Wildcats stumble in Big 12 opener as Avery Johnson battles without enough support. Can Collin Klein’s squad regroup in time for a crucial matchup against Houston?

Christian Rauh spotlights Johnson’s performance—30-for-50 with 292 passing yards and 38 rushing yards—while questioning the lack of designed quarterback runs and costly drops from receivers like Garrett Oakley. The breakdown zeroes in on defensive woes, with Kansas State surrendering 271 rushing yards and three touchdowns to Cincinnati’s Cole Tabb. Missed opportunities in the “middle eight,” key injuries to playmakers, and questions around tackling efficiency further complicate the Wildcats’ playoff hopes. With a bye week and a must-win against Houston ahead, can Kansas State shore up its defense and reignite its offense?

Texas Tech faces swirling ACC rumors and backlash, but is all the hate misplaced? The conversation focused on Big 12 Media Days fallout, Texas Tech’s public perception, and Joey McGuire’s standing after recent controversies. A key theme that emerged was the disconnect between fan uproar on social media and the reality inside the conference, with sources close to Texas Tech firmly denying any serious move to the ACC. The discussion explored Brett Yormark’s leadership, the much-criticized Monster Energy deal, and the experiment with LED courts, while comparing Big 12 stability to the chaos seen in the Pac-12. Several points were raised, including quarterback battles across the conference, Oklahoma State’s high-powered offense under Eric Morris, and whether Texas Tech’s fanbase can repair its relationship with the league. Will Texas Tech prove doubters wrong, or do deeper challenges remain for McGuire’s program in the evolving Big 12 landscape?

Kansas State opens Big 12 play with a tricky road trip to Cincinnati, and this matchup may be much more dangerous than people realize. On today's Locked On Kansas State, Christian Rauh and Jon Grove explain why the Bearcats could be a legitimate trap game for the Wildcats. Cincinnati has developed a trend of starting seasons hot under Scott Satterfield, Colin Klein will be coaching his first true Big 12 road game, and there's another connection that should have K-State fans paying attention. The guys also discuss Cincinnati's roster changes, new quarterback JC French, Nate Woody's arrival from Army, and why this game could set the tone for Kansas State's entire conference season. Kansas State Wildcats projected for just seven football wins? ESPN’s FPI sparks controversy with an 8th-place Big 12 finish, triggering debate about the real strength of the Wildcats’ schedule and the SEC’s dominance in preseason analytics. Can Avery Johnson and Collin Klein squad outperform computer projections, or will tough games against Arizona, Oklahoma State, and TCU define their season? The discussion explores Kansas State Basketball’s recruiting momentum, spotlighting the commitment of four-star prospect Cameron Cooper and the new approach under coach Casey Alexander. On the women’s side, Jeff Mittie revamps his staff, aiming for NCAA Tournament contention with a retooled 12-player roster and a challenging non-conference slate featuring NC State and Villanova.
