- The air temperature at the time the note was found was 31 degrees.
- Dennis Donnelly was 44 years old, worked as a parts coordinator at Farrow Supply in Portsmith, and lived three blocks from the Alder River on Kemper Street.
- A white pickup with magnetic door signs was seen parked with hazard lights on at the corner of Kemper and Third at about 6:00 AM on November 1, 2017, blocking the bridge path.
- On November 5, a caller named Neil Gardner used a pay phone two miles from Calloway Basin Marina to report seeing Dennis walking east on November 1, a tip that sent the investigation the wrong way for 72 hours.
