  • Everything You Think You Know About Olive Oil Might Be Wrong | Local Aromas
    Oct 14 2026

We have a confession to make: we're olive oil snobs. 😂🫒

    But we weren't always!

Before we became trained olive oil tasters, we believed some of the very same things we're about to talk about in this episode.

So Valeria decided to put Benedetta, our olive oil sommelier, to the test with a little game.

    True or False?

Green olive oil is better. Bitter olive oil has gone bad. Light olive oil has fewer calories. You shouldn't cook with extra virgin olive oil. First cold pressed means better quality.

    And that's just the beginning!

There are 10 statements in total, and guess what? They're ALL false!

We talk about why so many of these misconceptions exist, what actually makes an extra virgin olive oil good, how to store it, and why you should never save that special bottle for years.

But we also get into something we're especially passionate about: olive oil pairing.

Because once you discover how different one extra virgin olive oil can taste from another, and what happens when you pair the right oil with the right food, there's really no going back.

Fair warning: after this episode, your olive oil budget might go up. Ours certainly did! 😂

But you'll never look at a bottle of extra virgin olive oil quite the same way again.

  • Why Italians Wait All Year for Certain Foods | Local Aromas
    Oct 7 2026

    Summer is over.

    What are we thinking about?

Pumpkin. Mushrooms. Artichokes. Chestnuts. New olive oil. 😂

Because in Italy, a new season doesn't only mean a change in the weather. It means saying goodbye to foods we love and getting excited about the ones we've been waiting months to eat again.

Of course, we could buy tomatoes in winter or strawberries almost all year long.

    But we choose not to.

And that simple choice led us into a much deeper conversation than we expected.

We talk about seasonal markets, sagre, Christmas foods, dishes that only make sense at certain times of year, the excitement of spotting the first porcini mushrooms, and even discovering that fish and potatoes have seasons too. 😂

But eventually we realized that seasonality teaches us something beyond food … it teaches us to wait.

To anticipate something. To enjoy it while it's here. And then to let it go.

Because when everything is available all the time, eventually nothing feels particularly special.

Maybe happiness doesn't always need to come from something extraordinary.

Sometimes it's simply seeing the first peaches at the market and thinking, They're back! ❤️

Those little moments cost almost nothing, but they can make everyday life feel a little more meaningful.

And that's something you can bring into your life wherever you live.

  • Why Italians Have So Many Everyday Rituals | Local Aromas
    Sep 30 2026

Apparently, Italians have a lot of rules. 😂

At least that's what people keep telling us.

🙄 No cappuccino after a certain time
    🙄 Eat lunch at lunchtime
🙄 Have something to eat when you drink
    🙄 Go for aperitivo
    🙄 Take a passeggiata

And why do we ALWAYS go back to the same bar, market stall and neighborhood shops?

The funny thing is ... we don't think of any of these as rules.

So we started talking about them.

And somewhere between Benedetta remembering her grandmother bringing her coffee in bed and Valeria talking about the people at her Sunday market who know all about her family, we realized these little Italian rituals have something much deeper in common.

    Connection. 💞

💕 Your bartender remembers your order
💕 Your vegetable vendor asks where you've been when you miss a week
💕 Someone makes your coffee before you wake up
💕 You sit around a table
💕 You take a walk with a friend without even deciding where you're going

None of these moments is particularly important on its own. Some last three minutes.

But together, they create a feeling of belonging.

And maybe that's one of the reasons so many people tell us they feel something different when they're in Italy.

We started this episode talking about Italian rules. We ended it realizing that perhaps they're actually little acts of love. ❤️

  • The Italy Most Tourists Never See | Part 2 | Local Aromas
    Sep 23 2026

We're back for Part 2 of the Italy you're missing! 🇮🇹

Last week we started making our way through Italy's 20 regions and discovered very quickly that there was NO chance we were fitting them all into one episode. 😂

So this week we're heading south. ⬇️

We start in Abruzzo and Molise, continue through Campania, Puglia, Basilicata and Calabria, and then cross over to our two glorious islands: Sardinia and Sicily.

And this is definitely not a perfectly organized travel guide.

It's us remembering trips, arguing about where we've been 😂, discovering how many places one sister has visited without the other, talking about foods we still remember years later, and making an increasingly long list of places we clearly need to visit.

Because here's the funny thing …

We're Italian. We live here. And there is STILL so much of Italy we haven't seen.

But this conversation also brings us back to something we care about deeply.

We want people to explore beyond Italy's most famous destinations. But we don't want the Italy we're missing today to become the next Italy overwhelmed by social media tomorrow.

Go. Explore. Be curious. Eat the local food. Talk to people. Discover somewhere you had never heard of before.

But experience it because you want to experience it, not because you need to show everyone else that you were there.

There are 20 Italys waiting to be discovered.

And honestly? We still have plenty of discovering to do ourselves. ❤️

  • The Italy Most Tourists Never See | Part 1 | Local Aromas
    Sep 16 2026

    20 regions. 20 different Italys. 🇮🇹

We recently saw a statistic that stopped us in our tracks: 75% of tourists visit just 4% of Italy.

And after seeing videos of people literally standing in line in the Dolomites for something they'd seen on social media, we started thinking about everything travelers are missing.

So ... we're going on a little trip around Italy.

Actually, it's not so little. 😂

There are 20 regions, we get VERY carried away talking about them, and halfway through we realized there was absolutely no way this was going to fit into one episode.

    Welcome to Part 1.

We're traveling through Northern and Central Italy, talking about the places we've visited, what surprised us, what we ate, what we'd go back for, and even the regions we Italians still haven't explored enough ourselves.

From the Alps and Dolomites to Liguria, Piemonte, Emilia-Romagna, Tuscany, Umbria, Marche and Lazio, this isn't a checklist of things you "must see."

It's an invitation to look beyond the places everyone else is going.

Because Rome, Florence and Venice are extraordinary. But they're only the beginning. There is another Italy out there.

Actually ... there are about 20 of them. ❤️

And next week, we're heading south.

  • The Secret to Being Happy | Local Aromas
    Sep 9 2026

Why are some people happy and others aren't?

That's the question Valeria decided to bring to the table for her birthday episode.

And, well ... we had A LOT to say. 😂

We've both noticed how easy it is to spend life waiting for something to make us happy.

😶 I'll be happy when I find someone.
😶 I'll be happy when I have more money.
😶 I'll be happy when this problem disappears.
    😶 I'll be happy when ...

But over the years, we've started looking at happiness very differently.

For us, happiness has become much more about peace. About gratitude. About realizing how much we already have. About understanding that we can't control other people or everything that happens around us, but we can learn to control how we react to it.

We talk about our own journey, the difficult moments that changed our perspective, faith, the personal-growth books that started us down this road, the five-minute rule we still use, and the simple gratitude exercise that can completely change how you look at an ordinary bad day.

We're certainly not Zen all the time. 😅 We're still practicing too.

But one thing we've come to believe very deeply is this … happiness is a decision.

And it's a decision we get to make again and again. ❤️

  • How to Aperitivo Like an Italian | Local Aromas
    Sep 2 2026

    25% drink. 25% food. 50% mood.

That's our formula for the perfect Italian aperitivo. 🍹🍷🍸

But while we think of aperitivo today as that wonderful moment between the end of the day and dinner, its story started somewhere very different: with bitter preparations designed to open your appetite.

Yes, aperitivo was basically medicine. 😲

In this episode, we go down another Italian history rabbit hole and discover how something medicinal eventually made its way from pharmacies into cafés and became one of our favorite Italian rituals.

We talk about vermouth, Campari, Aperol, why Italians love bitter flavors, why there MUST be something to eat when we're drinking, and why aperitivo is definitely not the same thing as happy hour.

We also get into apericena (we have opinions 😂), regional aperitivo traditions, our favorite drinks, and how easy it is to create your own aperitivo ritual at home.

Because you don't need a beautiful Italian piazza, an expensive cocktail, or even alcohol to do aperitivo.

What really matters is that 50% … the mood!

That little moment when the day is finished, dinner hasn't started yet, and you give yourself permission to unplug, relax, and enjoy the people around you. 💞

  • The Cookbook That Helped Unite Italy | Local Aromas
    Aug 26 2026

Apparently, Italy's first food blogger was born in 1820. 😂

No Instagram. No YouTube. No email. He wasn't even a chef.

And at 71 years old, Pellegrino Artusi decided to self-publish “La Scienza in Cucina e l’Arte di Mangiar Bene” (Science in the Kitchen and the Art of Eating Well) when Italy itself had only been a unified country for 30 years.

    This completely blew our minds!

In this episode, we talk about how Artusi asked people from around Italy to send him their recipes, tested them, shared their stories, and slowly created an enormous cooking community at a time when Italians didn't even necessarily think of themselves as Italian.

And then our conversation takes us into another cookbook we grew up with, Ada Boni's “Il Talismano della Felicità”, our great-grandmother's handwritten recipe notebook, the recipes we have inherited and changed over the years, and the ones we're now passing on to our own children and our Local Aromas Family.

Because maybe that's the real magic of a recipe.

Someone shares it with you. You make it yours. You change it a little. You cook it for someone you love. And eventually, it becomes part of somebody else's story.

And if you're ever afraid you're too old to start something new, remember Pellegrino Artusi.

71 years old. Nobody wanted to publish his idea. So he did it himself.

And more than 130 years later, we're still talking about him. ❤️
