THE LIVING TRADITION PODCAST

Truth. Beauty. Tradition. Life.

Through honest, thoughtful, and often unexpected conversations, Laura Brand and Sara Sophia Haynes explore the living tradition of the Catholic Church and what it means for the way we actually live.

From Scripture, theology, the liturgy, and the saints to beauty, culture, prayer, relationships, and the questions Catholics are wrestling with today, The Living Tradition Podcast invites us to rediscover the astonishing inheritance we have been given—and to let the life of Christ become our own.

  • Are Catholics Superstitious?
    Oct 19 2026

Catholics have been accused of superstition for a very long time.

Sometimes the accusation has completely misunderstood Catholic faith. And sometimes… Catholics have given people a reason to wonder.

In this episode, Laura and Sara Sophia look at superstition through the history and devotional life of the Church—from ancient Roman accusations against Christians to buried St. Joseph statues, St. Anthony and lost keys, novenas, sacramentals, scapulars, and prayers that supposedly “never fail.”

What actually makes something superstitious? Is the problem the prayer, the object, or the way we’re using it? And how do we tell the difference between trusting in the intercession of the saints and treating Catholic devotion like a formula that guarantees an outcome?

Along the way, we get into St. Augustine, St. John Chrysostom, horoscopes, novenas, sacramentals, and the very human desire to know what is going to happen next.

Where the Church’s story becomes our story.

  • Episode 6: Mass, Bedtime, and Everything In Between
    Oct 5 2026

How do you actually hand on the faith to your family?

We know some of the obvious answers: go to Mass, teach our children to pray, celebrate the liturgical seasons, and help them know what the Church believes.

But how does faith become more than something we do on Sunday? How does it begin to shape the ordinary life of a home?

In this episode, Laura and Sara Sophia talk about the ways their own families have learned to live the faith in the everyday—from blessing children and bedtime prayer to music, books, conversations after Mass, family traditions, homeschooling, and even Jesus Christ Superstar.

But there isn’t one formula for building a Catholic home. What draws one child into prayer may be completely different from what speaks to another. What brings life to one family may leave another feeling exhausted.

And underneath all of it is something even more important: we can only give from what we ourselves are receiving.

The more we allow Christ to form us, nourish us, and draw us into relationship with him, the more that life begins to spill naturally into our homes.

From Mass to bedtime and everything in between, faith becomes part of family life one ordinary day at a time.

Where the Church’s story becomes our story.

  • Episode 5: Beauty Will Ruin Your Schedule
    Sep 22 2026

Beauty has a way of interrupting us.

A beautiful sunset, a piece of incredible music, a work of art, all of these and more can grab us in unexpected ways. And sometimes these moments of beauty beg us to stay in the moment, even when everything else in life is telling us to move on.

In this episode, Laura and Sara Sophia talk about beauty, attention, and the Catholic imagination—from the Transfiguration and Eucharistic silence to sacred music, literature, film, friendship, and even a beautiful set of pencils no one wants to use.

What happens when we let beauty be our guide in faith?

Where the Church’s story becomes our story.
