  • God Chose You for a Purpose (Genesis 5:1-32)
    Feb 6 2023

God chose you for a purpose!  Do you believe that?  It can be hard to see how and why God chose you, and for what purpose, but Genesis 5 helps you to see God’s greater plan and purpose for your life.

But you might say, “Genesis 5 is a genealogy of ancient people!  How does that tell me about how I was chosen?” Continue listening to find out!

**correction: one passages I quoted is from Revelations 7:9 (written by John), not from John 7:9.

  • Serving God with the Right Attitude (Genesis 4:1-26)
    Jan 22 2023

Having a favourite is normal.  We all have preferences, and they tend to lean towards people with the right attitude: authentic, truthful, kind, and sincere.

Now while God doesn’t choose favorites, he clearly preferred one brother’s attitude and actions over the other - Abel's over Cain's.

If pleasing God matters to us, and it should, you need to find out what attitudes and actions God is looking for.   Find out exactly what attributes and attitudes God is looking in in this verse by verse study of Genesis 4!

  • Lessons from Genesis 1 (Genesis 1:1-31)
    Nov 2 2022

God reveals himself to us through the Bible.  So what has God told us about himself?  Well to discover the answer, we have to go back to the beginning.  To the book of Genesis.
Genesis is the foundation on which we can understand the rest of the Bible.  In fact, the Bible would be incomplete and even possibly incomprehensible without the book of Genesis.  It sets the stage for the rest of the book: Who God is, what he wants, and what he plans to do.  It also informs us about who we are and what we are meant to be.  Find out the important lessons from Genesis 1!

  • Obedience in Faith (Romans 15:22-16:27)
    Oct 5 2022

Paul wrote the letter to the Romans in case he was never able to visit them.  He wanted them to have the entire gospel he preached in case he never got to preach it in person.

But even though Paul’s plans for his mission trip got interrupted, he didn’t let that stop him from continuing his mission.   Even though Paul ended up going to Rome in chains, Paul demonstrated obedience in faith – a deep trust in God and obedience to God’s command to serve one another and share the gospel.  He demonstrated the kind of faith and obedience God is calling all of us to follow – obedience no matter the circumstances, even when it seems impossible.

This is the conclusion to this study of Romans.  I hope it has blessed you as it has blessed me! Join me on November 2, 2022 for Season 2 , in which we begin a verse by verse study of the book of Genesis!

  • How to Be a Blessing to Others (Romans 15:1-21)
    Sep 28 2022

The Bible tells us that God blesses those who bless others, meaning that we are blessed so that we can bless others.  What does this look like? According to Romans 15, it means living for others and not for yourself.
But the common message seems to be that we should live to please ourselves and not worry about pleasing others.  The premise of this view is that we shouldn’t put others’ wishes, happiness, and dreams ahead of our own.  We come first.  Our own happiness should take priority.
In this episode, find out what it means to be a blessing to others, and how exactly we can live out our faith in this way.

  • Can We Judge Others According to the Bible? (Romans 14:1-23)
    Sep 21 2022

Everyone agrees that we shouldn’t judge others.  You might say that it is a moral standard.  But what does the Bible say about judging others?  Can we judge others according to the Bible?  What reasons does the Bible give us for why we should or shouldn’t judge others?

Romans 14, Paul talks about Christians judging other Christians.  This is not about judging others in general, but a very specific kind of being judgmental.
