  • Civil Rights 101: When a Police Raid Goes Wrong
    May 30 2026

The Layman's Law School podcast is going back in time to break down Detroit's most embarrassing police operation!

What happens when two different police units target the exact same house on the exact same night... and neither knows the other is there?

In this episode, we break down one of the strangest law enforcement failures you'll ever hear about. In November 2017, Detroit Police officers from neighboring precincts unknowingly converged on the same home during separate narcotics operations. One team had a valid search warrant. The other was conducting an undercover "push off" operation. What followed was confusion, shouting, drawn weapons, and eventually officers fighting other officers while an innocent homeowner watched from the sidelines.

Join Chace, Reid, Shawn, and Lindsey as the discuss the Facts, the Law and What this could mean if it happened to you! A few things that we touched on in this episode:

⚖️ How search warrants and undercover operations are supposed to work

⚖️ What legal obligations exist for police coordination and communication

⚖️ Whether officers can be held liable for using force against other officers they don't recognize

⚖️ The rights of an innocent homeowner caught in the middle

⚖️ What happens to an underlying criminal investigation when an operation completely falls apart

This case raises fascinating questions about civil rights, police accountability, use of force, and what happens when system failures create dangerous situations that could have ended in tragedy.

  • Criminal Law 201 | The Prescription Problem Nobody Talks About
    May 7 2026

Tiger Woods arrested for DUI… but with a 0.00 breathalyzer?

In this podcast episode of Layman’s Law School, we break down the real legal issues behind the latest allegations involving Tiger Woods and explain how you can still be charged with DUI even when alcohol isn’t involved.

We walk through the facts of the case, the bodycam footage, and the charges stemming from a crash in Jupiter, Florida. Then we dig into the law: what counts as “impairment,” how prescription drugs factor into DUI cases, and what prosecutors can (and can’t) access from your private medical records.

We also answer the practical questions:

    – Should you ever take a field sobriety test?

    – What happens if you refuse a chemical test?

    – Can your past DUI be used against you?

    – Why would someone go to rehab if they’re pleading not guilty?

Whether you’re following the Tiger Woods case or just want to understand your rights, this episode breaks it all down in plain English.

Tell us in the comments what YOU thought about Woods' latest legal troubles.
