DOMESTIC VIOLENCE IN THE BLACK CHURCH: LET'S TALK ABOUT IT!

What happens when the abuser is a deacon, minister, major tithe payer or even the PASTOR himself?Does his title protect him? Does his financial influence buy silence? And where does a woman turn when the person she needs protection from is standing behind the pulpit?

In Part 2 of my Domestic Violence Awareness Series on K’s Essence, we're confronting uncomfortable truths about patriarchy, spiritual authority, misplaced loyalty, and domestic violence in the church.

I LOVE the church, but loving the church means holding its leadership accountable!

The Essence of It All: The church cannot preach deliverance on Sunday and demand silence from the wounded on Monday. • Religion Vs Relationship Pt. 2
    Sep 28 2026
In Part 2 of my Religion vs. Relationship series, we're talking about Shepherds, Hirelings & Spiritual Responsibility.

Jesus made a distinction in John 10 between the shepherd and the hireling. So what happens when leadership begins to look more like ownership than stewardship?

We're talking about some difficult things: spiritual manipulation, guilt, control, free labor disguised as commitment to God, the use of “God told me” to pressure people and what happens when a member simply says no.
But this is not an attack on pastors. There are faithful shepherds who pray, sacrifice, serve, teach, protect, and genuinely love God's people. They deserve our prayers, support, and honor. The question is: Does our model of spiritual leadership look like Jesus?

Pastors are under-shepherds. Jesus Christ is the Chief Shepherd. Honor your pastor. Pray for your pastor. Support godly leadership. Receive biblical correction. But never confuse your shepherd with your Savior.

  • Religion vs Relationship Pt 1
    Sep 21 2026
Can we become so busy doing things for God that we stop spending time with God? In Part 1 of this three-part K's Essence series, Karen Wright Fairley examines Jesus' words in John 10 and one powerful truth: the sheep belong to God.

Pastors and spiritual leaders have an important biblical responsibility as under-shepherds, but Jesus Christ remains the Chief Shepherd. Our relationship with a pastor, church, denomination, ministry, title, or position can never replace our personal relationship with Christ. Are you serving from obedience or guilt? Are you using your God-given gifts according to God's assignment or simply wherever someone has found a need for them?

Do you know Scripture for yourself? And most importantly:Do you know the Shepherd's voice?“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” John 10:27 KJV

  • What is Happening to the American Family
    Sep 14 2026
What is happening to the American family? When children turn against parents, parents fail to cherish children, and violence within families becomes another headline we scroll past, we have to ask ourselves some difficult questions: Have we become numb? Have we lost honor, compassion, accountability, and love for one another?

In this episode of K’S ESSENCE with Karen Wright Fairley, Karen challenges us to examine our own hearts and homes. What happened to honoring our fathers and mothers? What happened to valuing the wisdom of our elders? Are we truly loving God and loving our neighbors as Christ commanded? And when disappointment with church leaders causes us to question the church, we must remember the Bereans of Acts 17:11. We can receive the Word and then search the Scriptures for ourselves.

We may not be able to change every family in America, but we can begin with our own.“As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” Joshua 24:15 KJVSometimes revival doesn't need to begin in the sanctuary. Sometimes revival needs to start at the kitchen table.
