Naturally, I made it into a comedy.

Then something unexpected happened. Other people who’d been kidnapped as children started finding me.

So this is where the conversation carries on.

I’m a writer, actor and trained counsellor, which means I’m professionally qualified to sit with difficult feelings and personally qualified to make inappropriate jokes about them.

Kidnap is about the stories we don’t quite know what to do with. The messy bits. The funny bits. The bits that don’t fit neatly into trauma, recovery or a three-act structure.

I’ll tell you mine. I want to hear yours.

No trauma porn. No inspirational music swelling underneath.

Probably some swearing.
