Jesus spoke with a Samaritan woman, showed that he knew her life, and helped her understand that he is the promised Saviour. She then told others about Jesus, and many believed in him.

Outline:

1. Jesus speaks to a Samaritan woman at a well. (John 4:1-26)
2. Jesus speaks with his disciples. (John 4:27-38)
3. The new Samaritan believers invite Jesus to come and teach. (John 4:39-42)

Tips for teaching children:

• Living Water Bottle Wrap: Print the words of John 4:13–14 on strips of paper. Have children decorate the strips, then wrap them around water bottles and secure them with tape.

Tips for teaching adults:

• Find a good study Bible with extensive footnotes at the bottom of the page, and that includes information at the beginning of each book of the bible. You will probably find some basic but helpful information related to the historical, cultural and religious background to this story in John 4, especially as it relates to the Samaritans and Jews. Share a summary of the background to help make the story more meaningful and powerful.
• Generate a list of people that the class knows that are not presently Christian and begin praying for these people each week. Each class member can write one or two on this list.
• Organise a time to share a meal together and invite these people that you have been praying for.
• Pray that God may use your class to reach out to those who may be different from them
