Step into the witty world of John Fletchers Womans Prize, or the Tamer Tamed, a delightful comedy likely penned around 1611 as a sequel to Shakespeares The Taming of the Shrew. In this clever tale, we find the notorious shrew-tamer, Petruchio, now a widower, embarking on a new marriage with the sharp and spirited Maria. Encouraged by her cousin Bianca and sister Livia, Maria boldly decides to strike for equal rights, defying the expectations of a proper 17th-century wife. Fletchers play challenges the dynamics of gender roles within marriage, making it a thought-provoking and entertaining exploration of its time. (Summary by Elizabeth Klett)
