In an episode of "It Could Be Worse," Fred Stewart narrates a pivotal childhood encounter with a member of the KKK in Mississippi in 1976. As a young African-American boy, Fred had a scary confrontation with a KKK leader — the father of an opposing team's pitcher — after winning a crucial little league baseball game. The incident unfolded to reveal both the hideous face of racism and the power of a united community when the town stood by Fred. Further, a bonfire event hosted by a townsperson forced the KKK leader to apologise publicly to Fred. Reflecting on these past events, Fred discusses the persistence of systemic racism and how this experience moulded him, underlining the importance of confronting racism and advocating non-violence. Ultimately, he encourages listeners to speak out against racism wherever it surfaces.
