A woman went into a breathwork session in Fiji believing it was absolute crap. She came out one of its biggest fans, and after a serious car accident she's finding the breath is part of her healing.
Sara is a somatic breathwork practitioner. She spent years as a personal trainer and life coach before finding the modality that reached what she calls the deeper layers, the ones she and her clients couldn't get to before. In this conversation, she and Dawn talk about what "somatic" actually means, why the first half of a session guides you into a fight-or-flight state in a safe, controlled way, and why the shaking and crying people see online is only part of it. Sometimes people laugh. Sometimes they sing. Sometimes they fall asleep.
They also take on a critique Dawn saw on social media: that breathwork stirs people up unnecessarily. Sara answers it plainly, including who this work isn't for right now. Dawn shares a moment from a retreat in Sedona she'd forgotten about until Sara brought it back.
This episode is educational and not a substitute for medical or mental health care.
What you'll walk away with:
– What Sara means when she says every part of you is welcome
– Why the activation only lasts six or seven minutes at a time
– The question she asks herself when she's snapping at her kids
– Why she's honored when someone falls asleep during a session
