WHERE WE STAND COMING INTO GAME 2

Victor Wembanyama came out of the gates on fire in Game 1, dropping 35 points in his playoff debut — a Spurs franchise record — as San Antonio rolled to a 111-98 victory. His 21 first-half points set an NBA record for most in the opening half of a playoff debut since the league's play-by-play era began in 1997.

Deni Avdija kept Portland in the fight with 30 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists — becoming the first Trail Blazer to post a 30/10/5 line in a playoff game — but the Blazers simply couldn't get enough help around him. Jrue Holiday shot 4-for-15 and Shaedon Sharpe managed just 10 points on 4-for-13 shooting.

The question heading into tonight: Can Portland get more bodies involved, or does San Antonio keep the clamps on?

WHAT TO WATCH IN GAME 2

The Blazers used Donovan Clingan on Stephon Castle and Toumani Camara on Wembanyama defensively in Game 1. That strategy did throw Castle out of rhythm — 17 points but on 4-for-13 shooting — but it did nothing to slow Wemby. If Castle can make Portland pay for going under screens, the whole Blazers defensive scheme falls apart.

Portland finished the regular season with the NBA's 21st-ranked offense, and that poses a steep challenge against the Spurs' third-ranked defense. The Blazers were down just two points with under eight minutes left in the third quarter in Game 1 before San Antonio pulled away — they know they can hang, they just need to find another scorer.

The Spurs have dominated this playoff matchup historically, holding a 3-1 series lead all time. San Antonio has won three straight series against Portland, and they are looking to make it four tonight.
