What Do I Recognise as Me — and What Isn’t?
How much of what you believe about yourself is actually you, and how much is simply a collection of labels, roles and expectations you've carried through life?
I'm shy. I'm responsible. I'm difficult. I'm not creative. I'm the one everybody relies on.
Some of these descriptions may be true. Some may have been true once. And others may have come from people or experiences that shaped how you began to see yourself.
In this Thoughtful Thursday reflection, Michelle explores the difference between who we are, what we've learned to do, and the identities we've become accustomed to carrying.
We also look at something rather interesting: the qualities we refuse to acknowledge in ourselves. Why can it be so easy to hold onto criticism while dismissing the things that make us wonderful?
What if you could become curious about the person you actually are today, without needing to reject your past, change your personality or arrive at a final definition of yourself?
Perhaps there's something beautifully freeing about recognising:
Yes. That's me.
And perhaps some other things aren't quite as much you as you've always believed.
