  • Smithills Hall: The Martyr's Bleeding Footprint
    Sep 30 2026

In a manor house on the edge of Bolton, there's a flagstone said to carry the print of a man's foot, and some say it turns red. Some say it bleeds.

Adam, Oz and Frank stay close to home for Episode Five. They tell the true story of George Marsh, a Protestant preacher from Deane who was examined at Smithills Hall during Mary the First's persecution and burned at the stake in Chester on the twenty-fourth of April, fifteen fifty-five.

Then comes the legend: the footprint, the stone that was supposedly taken away and brought back, and whether any of it holds up. Oz wants evidence, Frank wants to stand next to it in his size elevens, and Adam has done the reading.

Smithills Hall is council-owned and open to visitors. Check the official website before you go.

  • Borley Rectory: The Most Haunted House in England
    Sep 23 2026

A pencilled message appears on a vicarage wall in Essex, addressed to the rector's wife, and stops mid-sentence.

Adam, Oz and Frank take on Borley Rectory: the bricked-up nun nobody can find a record of, the Foysters and the writing on the walls, Harry Price renting the whole house and advertising in The Times for observers, the fire of 1939, and the 1956 book that accused Price of faking most of it. Marianne Foyster later admitted she faked some of it, though her story changed depending on who was asking.

Everyone who set foot in that house came out with a different story, and every one of them was sure.

  • The Samlesbury Witches: The Trial That Fell Apart
    Sep 27 2026

A fourteen-year-old girl stood up in Lancaster court and swore her own grandmother had eaten a baby. The same week, the same judge had sent the Pendle witches to hang on the word of a nine-year-old.

Adam, Oz and Frank take on the Samlesbury Witches of 1612: three women accused by Grace Sowerbutts of shape-shifting, grave-robbing and cannibalism, who survived by asking the judge one question, who taught her to say it? Then the White Lady of Samlesbury Hall, and the Southworth family that runs through both stories.

Ask who wrote the script. It's always worth asking.
