Doctrine of Creation: Episode One
We begin our series on the doctrine of creation by considering what the biblical creation account reveals about God and why this is foundational for the rest of Christian theology and the redemptive story of Scripture. We also discuss how the doctrine of the Trinity–the truth that God has eternally existed as one being in three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, who are co-equal in divinity, glory, power, and honour–helps us make sense of the world and our nature as human beings.
Here are some questions we discuss:
- Why begin with the doctrine of creation?
- What is the focus of the biblical creation narratives?
- What does the creation narrative reveal about God?
- Why is it necessary (and good) for God to be Triune?
- How does the Bible address and correct ancient and contemporary misunderstandings about creation?
- How is God's nature reflected in creation and in humanity?
- How do the persons of the Trinity relate in the work of creation and the work of redemption?
Our series on the doctrine of creation will continue in future episodes. We will cover the themes of forming and filling, the goodness and corruption of creation, our bodies, sub-creation, sabbath, and eschatology in relation to creation.
