The First Year: For New Teachers and the Veterans Who Mentor Them
DESCRIPTION:
Nobody tells you about the shoes, or about crying in your car. This episode has two seats: one for the new teacher, and one for the experienced teacher who can help her stay. Isa shares what's normal in the first year, why the dip a few months in is "on the map," and seven things that make it better, from raising the relationship bar to fixing one hard part of the day at a time. For every piece of advice, there's a matching one for mentors: share what you know about the children, show how you do it, tell the story of your worst lesson, and say a new teacher's progress out loud. You'll also get two permission slips, one for each of you. New teachers, you don't have to be perfect. You just have to come back tomorrow. And veterans, you might be the reason someone does.
