What if the problem isn't that we don't listen to our bodies, but that nobody ever taught us what to listen for?
At 16, I knew the basics of menstruation. What I didn't understand was how my hormones, energy, mood and physical symptoms could change — or how to recognise when something wasn't quite right.
In this episode of Endometriosis, Actually, I explore what I wish I'd known about my body growing up: the difference between common and normal, why painful periods are so easily dismissed, the psychology of trusting our bodies, and how tracking symptoms can be both empowering and overwhelming.
I also ask why, despite progress in menstrual health education, we're still struggling to establish whether young people are actually getting the information they need.
Because understanding our bodies shouldn't be something we have to spend years figuring out for ourselves.
We can do better.
