This week’s discussion is over Star Trek: Enterprise season 1 episode 17, Rogue Planet

A planet with no sun, a jungle kept warm by steam, and a woman in a clearing who knows the captain's name: on Dakala, Enterprise walks into a nine-generation hunting tradition whose prey — the wraiths — turn out to be sentient, telepathic shapeshifters, and one of them has taken her shape from a poem Archer's mother read him as a boy. What begins as the early record's purest ghost story ends with a doctor's chemistry, a hunt that fails for "bad luck," and a farewell from a magnificent slug.

In this episode, Thara and Elias work through the whole dark shape of the log: Damrus and the gracious Eska whose atrocity is a hobby, Reed's professional envy of hunters who move without sound, T'Pol's correct and useless skepticism, Burzaan's wound and the cellular residue Phlox finds in it, the fear-scent the Eska really track by, and the masking compound that lets Archer protect a people without firing a shot — plus the Yeats poem at the log's heart and what it means that the ghost was the plaintiff all along. Back at the archive desk, Thara signs the hosts up for the Records Heritage Hunt, discovers its forty-seven markers make sport of people's personal logs, and takes Archer's way out: preservation sleeves, a masked signal, and a hunt that fails beautifully.

Verdicts:
Elias 6 out of 10
Thara 8 out of 10.
Wraith woman 10 out of 10, and a planet of her own.
