The laminated feeding schedule that proved her neighbor killed her
In this episode, we follow the discovery of a laminated feeding schedule on Linda Henderson’s body and the decades-long trail of missing records, ruined files, and a sealed envelope that survived a flood. The episode traces the investigative steps and raises the question: how did that schedule and one preserved sample shift the inquiry?
Person: Linda Henderson
Date: July 14, 1991
Location: Marsh Creek / Belden Trail
Person: Edward Harris
Event: 1998 municipal annex flood
- A runner found Linda Henderson lying near Marsh Creek on the morning of July 14, 1991, with a laminated feeding schedule clipped to her belt.
- Linda was a long-time foster caregiver who always kept a laminated care sheet taped inside her door and clipped to her belt during rotation days.
- Shelter records show Linda had no foster animals the week of July 14; the schedule on her belt that day matched her handwriting and that week’s dates.
- Neighbor Edward Harris rented the unit next to Linda’s, had visited her with foster animals, knew her 7 a.m./7 p.m. routine, and does not appear in the surviving 1991 investigation notes.
- A watertight bag containing an envelope with skin cells from beneath Linda’s right thumbnail survived a 1998 flood; a 2022 DNA extraction matched Edward Harris in the state database.
