On October 22, 2026, a Tennessee jury convicted 22-year-old Kevin Jaimes Martinez of first-degree murder — and the judge ordered him to serve a life sentence. In Tennessee, that means 51 years before he can even face the parole board. The crime happened on December 19, 2024, on Washington Pike in Knoxville. Martinez believed the victim had stolen his brother's cell phone. Surveillance video captured the chilling sequence: Martinez walked from behind a laundromat to the victim's parked car, went back behind the building, returned, opened the car door — and shot the man inside. He fled to Nashville and was arrested at the Greyhound bus station while on his way to California. District Attorney General Charme Allen praised the quick work of the Knoxville Police Department, assisted by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the Metro Nashville Police Department.
