On October 21, 2026, a Manitowoc County, Wisconsin jury found Timothy Hauschultz guilty on four of six counts — child neglect resulting in death, contributing to the delinquency of a child, and two counts of being a party to the physical abuse of a child — in the 2018 death of his 7-year-old great-nephew, Ethan Hauschultz. The boy died on April 20, 2018, after being forced to carry a 44.4-pound wooden log around the backyard in freezing conditions as punishment for failing to memorize Bible verses. Prosecutors said Timothy picked the log himself and told his teenage son Damian to supervise the punishment. After twelve hours and twenty minutes of deliberation over two days, the jury split its verdict, convicting on four counts and acquitting on two. Sentencing is set for January 15.
